The first two days of October I was at home working. I took the opportunity to experience something new for me, participation (or at least assist) in a conference. But from home. It was the
Open Video Conference, a very interesting stuff on the new frontiers of the video, and in particular on the relationship between video and the Internet, the so-called new media, new formats, the technical and sociological implications of this instrument in 2010. Along with the focus on technology "open" network, which is open source and software-based free and connected to the video.

The experience was interesting for me: not only have I followed several "talks" and "panels" on subjects that interest me, displaying the video stream live from New York, but while some Speakers spoke and referred to projects, authors and sites, in an other window of my trusty Firefox (browser) I was going to take a look and tested in real time what they were talking about.
Of course I could not ask questions, but I could participate in a "stream" of impressions and comments posted from around the world in real time via Twitter and displayed on the same page as the streaming video. Discovering The conference was followed simultaneously in New Zealand and Spain.
The time zone meant that some speakers that interest me, and who spoke at 5 pm, well past the day, I had vedermeli 11 pm, but I'd say it's okay.
Result? And an engaging experience that combines. Much more than I imagined. Besides the thrill of a live event while it's happening anyway (with all its limitations and benefits) and not just by reading the documents afterwards.
With its delays, errors, and everything else off the air.
This is the Internet. Exactly that. And I like it.
